Opa!
Recently it was M’s birthday and she is a massive lamb lover, so she suggested that we go try a Greek restaurant. After weeks of deliberation… 3 Olives was chosen!
If you have been following my posts, you’ll know that i’m not a massive lamb lover.. however, the lamb at 3 Olives has made me reconsider this. We ordered 2 meat banquets and a few other main dishes
Dips – Tzatziki, Fish Roe and an Olive based dip served with pita
The tzatziki and the fish roe was a clear favourite with the group of diners. The tzatziki tasted quite refreshing and the fish roe one was nice and salty, perfect way to start the banquet! The olive lover did enjoy the olive based one as well (sorry i forgot what it was called…)
Greek Salad
Nice and simple. It was a good counterbalance for all the meat that we were going to eat…
Haloumi, Dolmathes and Cheesy Triangles
This was the first time I’d ever tried haloumi.. I can’t say that i love it all that much… I’m not sure what it is suppose to be like but this haloumi was a bit rubbery… but hey that could be what haloumi is… Someone please educate me. The cheesy triangles were awesome! Thin filo pastry that just crumbles when you touch it and awesome cheesy goodness on the inside! Mmmmmmm I’m now drooling on my keyboard as I think about it. The dolmathes was ok… i have definitely tried better though..
Chorizo
I thought that this dish was too oily and was slightly unimpressed by this dish, however, the herbs and the lemon did bring out the taste of the chorizo.
Meatballs served with Chips and Greek Salad
This was ordered off the main course menu and it was the worst dish of the meal. It was dry, overcooked and had no taste. Was extremely disappointed with this dish but the introduction of hot chips made our group of diners look like a bunch of seagulls!
Lamb served with roast vegies
This was a bit of a controversial dish amongst the diners. The birthday girl, M, hated it… she said that they had ‘cooked out the lamb taste and flavour.’ However, this is how I like my lamb served, so I loved it!
It was tender and flavoursome. Would definitely come back just for this dish!
Calamari served with Chips and Greek Salad
This dish was also ordered off the main course menu.. and Thank God we did… because it was TO DIE FOR. Everyone was fighting for the last piece. The batter wasn’t too thick and it wasn’t overly oily so it was fantastic! The calamari was tender and still had that elastic-y feel to it when you ate it. Loved it! We were quite thankful that we got the mains just cause they had the Greek salad. It was much needed to cut through all that protein.
Chicken Souvlaki with Sausages and Lamb
By the time this dish arrived, everyone was stuffed… This dish didn’t particularly stand out to me. It just tasted like chicken skewers from the BBQ. The sausages were no different.
Overall, we had a wonderful time at 3 Olives and was rolling out the door after paying a very reasonable bill. The service was very attentive and because we ended up singing happy birthday at the top of lungs, the birthday girl, M, was given free ouzo!
Ouzo
The broken heart salt and pepper shakers are so cute!
